For cleanerbod re damp cupboards, I read this tip: Remove everything and wipe down all the surfaces. Use vinegar, tea tree oil (diluted one part to 10 parts water) or Borax Natural Wood Treatment (£8, from greenshop.co.uk, 01452 770629). Leave the doors open and allow to dry thoroughly. In each cupboard, place a bowl of activated charcoal (try Eheim Ehfikarbon, £2.59 a litre, from aquarium shops or swelluk.com, 0845 658 9599) or a dehumidifier egg, designed to reduce air moisture content in small areas (lakeland.co.uk). Be sure not to overfill, leaving plenty of space for air to circulate.

Can anyone help? My mother was a 3 pack a day smoker and I have inherited her antique wooden furniture coated in nicotine. What can I use to clean the furniture of nicotine without damaging the wood finish? Thanks.

Help!! I'm moving into a old home that is absolutely filthy! The hardest jobs look like the greasy/bacteria infested wooden cupboards, and the window sills (which are tricky because of the grooves to get into). Any ideas for disinfectants for these areas? Thanks!

To remove smells, like smoke, from wood furniture, I crumple clean newspapers and leave them in the cabinets. Change daily. For fabrics I have put baking soda in small fabric bag, inside a trashbag with the smelly clothes.

To annalina with the tape on the piano--K&A have used baby oil to remove stickers, so you might give that a go. I would think if anything, the oil might do the wood some good rather than drying it out more or staining it. Just focus on the edges first and work your way in, though, since the tape is probably not porous like a regular sticker.

To use your iron skillets, if they are really rusty and bad you can put them in a wood fire and burn them and then wash them and spray them with cooking spray and wipe them out with a paper towel. If they aren't really bad, you can heat them good on the top of the stove and then spray them with cooking spray and wipe them out.

To keep your wooden cutting boards fresh, rub lemon wedges over the board after you've used them. Remember never to put wood in an automatic dishwasher, and NEVER let it soak in standing water. It'll soak up the nasties, get warped, and be more prone to get smelly. :)

re: Grandpa's a Honey! Okay, I had to think about this one for awhile... but I have to say the only thing I can suggest is rubbing oil or bees wax into your wood, so that it acts as a protective barrier to any dirt (or honey!). Your wood will love you for it. As for your Grandpa, maybe a cute reminder would work. Take some construction paper, cut out a circle, and glue it to the top of the honey jar. Write in something like 'Please wash-up, Honey!' or the like. :) I think it's sweet (er, pun not originally intended...) that you have lovingly cleaned up each time with no fuss to your Granddad. :) Don't see that kind of respect from a lot of folks these days. :) Take care. Hope it helps!

Actually, it's more of a desperate cry for help. My 91 year up grandpa loves to eat honey, but he doesn't clean his hands afterwards. Consequently, he gets honey everywhere, especially in the kitchen. By the time I get home from work, the kitchen is a sticky mess. I clean everything with hot soapy water and that does the job, but how do I keep the honey from sticking to the wood cabinetry? Is their something I can apply after cleaning so the next time I clean, it's easier? PLEASE HELP!!! I'm sick of the germs!!

Use babywipes to clean your tv,computer and some wooden shelves its grabs all the dirt and the dust sticks to it,and it doesnt just spread the dust..you'll be amazed! also use toilet tissue to then dry the wet bits off. babywipes also work wonders on some leathers, keyboards, futon matress's,computer screens, nicotine stains.

black spots on wood furniture can indicate mildew. don't just varnish over it, treat it with bleach first and then re-apply the finish

don't use paper towels or newspapers on any plastic or glass. The small wood slivers in them can get embedded and scratch.
