After you have finished sqeezing the juice of a lemon, put half in your dishwasher and put on quick wash. It's a cheap way to clean your dishwasher and get rid of nasty smells. Fill the other half lemon with salt and sit in the fridge to absorb nasty smells.

Question : I have an cast iron with enamel pot that is very badly stained on the bottom (inside). I have tried scrubbing with coarse salt, soaking with dish soap, boiling with cream of tartar, and lots of elbow grease with just about every kind of scrubbing tool that I could find. If anyone knows of something that will remove very ugly stains from enamel please, please, please let me know. I would hate to have to throw the pan out!

For the bonfire dog pee dilemma-- try a urine remover with enzymes, or a laundry detergent with enzymes (also called biological powder) --mixed with a bit of water, so it's like paste. Leave it overnight, then wet-vac it up (or blot it up with a lot of papertowels or old rags). Also, I've heard piling salt does well on fresh stains, for soaking up the liquid (let dry, then vacuum up the salt crumbles). Good luck. --I just found runny poo on our white carpet. ;o;

Inker's tip -- to clean motor oil from your skin (even after a good scrub with soap), rub your hands with vegetable oil and salt (at least a tablespoon). Follow up with oil soap, then regular soap --or follow up with a liquid soap containing exfoliants.

Puppy urine accidents on carpet, blot with paper towels to remove as much as possible then cover the spot with table salt. Make the salt pile pretty thick, 1/2" to 1" thick. Salt will draw out moisture that has gone deeper than the towels wil reach. Let the salt dry completely, it will be hard and crusty. Pick the salt off the carpet and then vacuum.

Louise - I saw an absolutely FILTHY tub cleaned with a halved grapefruit and some salt! Just spinkle the salt on the grapefruit, wipe all around the tub ring, let sit then use a nylon scrubby to finish the job-the filth just disappears, and it smells great too!
