I have window air conditioners. In humid weather I collect the water which discharges from the air conditioners by placing a bucket on the ground under the drip hole. I use this water to water my garden and potted outdoor plants. By washing my garden spade in the bucket after turning my compost, I also add fertilizer to the water.

Going on holiday? Don’t forget the plants! If you’ve got loads like we have, you can place them together which creates a cool mini plant environment, which can protect them from heat. Otherwise you could use a towel to partially block the bath plug and fill with a bit of water, placing the plants on the spread out towel. This should hold enough water for them to keep going for a week or two.

If youve got any plastic or fake plants, give them a good shower and let them dry, its a lot quicker than dusting the leaves .

It's nice to have a few plants in the kitchen, but you can get water spillage when they are high up. Instead, get some ice cubes out of the fridge and put a few in each pot.
