i regularly drop a milton tablet in to my toilet bowels to keep them free from lime scale. we have very soft water where we live and tent to get a pink residue around where the water comes out of the holes and sinks upstairs , by using a little bit of bleach this ilimintates the stain and leaves the toilet sparkling.

Problem with flies or roaches? Leave out a saucer with wine and vinegar. The sweetness from the wine will draw them in, and the vinegar will kill them. Alternately, use a mason jar with a small volume of wine. Put a layer of saran wrap atop it and make sure to puncture some holes. (They may be a bit tipsy so won't find the exits!)

To keep my drip pans on the stove clean I wrap them in almuinum foil. I replace them monthly. Use the heavy duty stuff for durability. You can also place a sheet in the bottom the oven to catch spills. If yours is a gas stove, just cut holes in the foil and place under racks.

to get rid of fag smells, put a bowl of vinegar hidden in a room - cover the bowl with cling film and make tiny holes in it so it doesn't spill

If you have an old vacuum you'll find that a lot of dust can come back out through bad joints and holes in the bag - upgrade is my advice, new ones with cylinders are much more efficient.
