To prevent your trash bin from getting smelly especially in the summer months, put any food scraps in a freezer bag and store in freezer until trash day. This will also keep the flies away.

Problem with flies or roaches? Leave out a saucer with wine and vinegar. The sweetness from the wine will draw them in, and the vinegar will kill them. Alternately, use a mason jar with a small volume of wine. Put a layer of saran wrap atop it and make sure to puncture some holes. (They may be a bit tipsy so won't find the exits!)

Problems with small flies in the house? We’ve got some cheap rubbing alcohol which we spray at them and it knocks them out! It’s better than spraying pesticide all over the indoors, and any excess just evaporates away. I guess you could also call it humane too!
