To get wax out of fabrics or carpet place a brown paper bag on top of the wax then iron it with a hot clothes iron. It melts the wax which is then absorbed into the paper bag.

To remove chewing gum from fabric - place in freezer or place block of ice over fabric. When gum has hardened sufficiently, peel off gently taking care not to rip fabric. Hardened gum should lift off fabric.

Not a tip, a question. How do you clean the dust and dirt from fabric items that can't go into a washing machine? I have a couple of items like a few hats, a pair of small stuffed animals, and some fabric covered boxes that are gathering dirt and have no idea how to clean them. Thanks.

Dip a soft bristled paint brush in fabric softener and allow to dry. Use this to dust your knick-knacks. It will not only remove the dust but keep the dust from collecting so quickly.

To remove smells, like smoke, from wood furniture, I crumple clean newspapers and leave them in the cabinets. Change daily. For fabrics I have put baking soda in small fabric bag, inside a trashbag with the smelly clothes.

An easy way to get rid of hairspray buildup....combine water and liquid fabric softner (equal parts). Residue comes off easily from floor, countertops and cabinets and it smells great too!

Biological Washing Powder: Do you call this Powder Detergent in the USA? The biological bit I think means it is composed with enzymes do dissolve /breakdown dirt and stains in the process. As opposed to washing out the dirt particles from say fabric. I think it is worth noting that if the clothes say, are not rinsed thoroughly to remove the detergents / enzyme residue some people can have an allergy or irritation especially if intimate garments; less likely with non-biological detergent which is more gentle. Is this helpful?

Getting nasty stains out of white, off-white, or even yellow-toned fabric is a breeze. Take an old toothbrush, and one cup of hot water containing 1 spritz of Tilex cleaner with bleach. Dunk the toothbrush in the mixture and rub the stain very gently. It will disappear before your eyes. Rinse stain afterward with regular warm water, and pat up the moisture to dry. Be careful, though, especially with clothing. Tilex is powerful and will take the color out!

I save my used fabric softener sheets to dust computer and television screens. The sheets cause no streaks and seem to repel dust.

For blood stains: Wet the fabric (cold water only!), then rub with handsoap. Add a capful or more of hydrogen peroxide to the stain and let stand. Rinse after 5-10 minutes, then repeat (this time in reverse, capful, then rub with soap). After 5 more minutes, rinse. If it's not too old a stain, it should come right out.

To get out ink off of fabrics use a baby wipe first to test to see if that will come out, if not take a bowl of warm water, soapbar & small brush to the laudry room with the stain fabric & rub the fabric with the wet bar really good then with the soap is on the fabric add spray & wash on it and scrub real well with the brush then put in washer to extra cleaning. The ink will come out for sure.

If you get a pollen stain on your clothes, don’t panic! The pollen is very light and hopefully won’t be part of the fabric just yet. Get some sticky tape and very carefully pull off as much as you can manage. Don’t brush at all.

Some doggie toys can be safely cleaned in the top rack of your dishwasher. Fabric dog toys can be thrown into a lingerie bag and cleaned in your washing machine. Don't use fabric conditioner, though! Regular washing will keep harmful bacteria from building up on the toys, possibly infecting Fido's teeth and gums.
