Search : borax

in my previous home, in the spring, i had quite the issue with ants. so oneday, i decided that since terro was mostly borax, why not use it around the foundatiuon of the house. terro is pretty costly for the amount that you get, but mule team 20 is a huge box and much more cost effective. make sure to reapply every spring.

Also for americans, if you live in an area that has hard water (ie. New England or Southwest) or water that has very heavy mineral deposits, this can make it hard for detergents to get your clothes really clean. Add a little Borax to your wash to soften your wash water. Your clothes will smell fresher and be cleaner.

Toxicity of boric acid Boric acid, sodium borate, and sodium perborate are estimated to have a lethal dose (LD50) from 0.1 to 0.5 g/kg in humans[verification needed][5]. These substances are toxic to all cells, and have a slow excretion rate through the kidneys. Kidney toxicity is the greatest, with liver fatty degeneration, cerebral edema, and gastroenteritis. A reassessment of boric acid/borax by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Office of Pesticide Programs found potential developmental toxicity (especially effects on the testes).[6] Boric acid solutions used as an eye wash or on abraded skin are known to be especially toxic to infants, especially after repeated use because of its slow elimination rate.[7]

To Mum with the fish. Try running a load of rags or towels through it with 2/3 a cup of borax and about a cup of vinegar in the rinse water. Also if your washer has a lint trap, check it out to see whether there is a lot of lint in there which is staying damp and trap odor.

I add essential oils to my vinegar when making up my counter spray. 1 part bicarbonate soda, 1 part vinegar,1 tsp borax, 10-15 drops essential oil. It cleans fabulously and the essential oil leaves a great scent.

To clean tile grout line mix 2cup of bicarbonate soda, 1cup borax, and about 1cup of hot water. This will make a paste. Smear some of the paste in grout line and scurb with a grout brush. Second have some clean hot water in another bucket for rinseing.
